NIC Mexico (Network Information Center Mxico), the registry and administrators

NIC Mexico (Network Information Center México), the registry and administrators of the .MX cctTLD announced on April 28th 2008 that there are now 250,000 .MX domain name registrations.

DNXpert.com reports on this growth.

This is highly promising for the increasing use of .MX domain names given the accelerated behavior of registration in the last years; and considering also its 24% annual growing rate. It took 15 years to get the first 100,000 .MX domain registrations, and only two and a half years to add another 100,000. Therefore, reaching the amount of 250,000 .MX domains in just a single year is very satisfying for NIC México and they expect a much shorter waiting period to register next 100,000 .MX domain names.

DNXpert suggests a few reasons for this success, citing NIC México’s daily effort to satisfy its customer’s needs and the increasing use and popularity of the Internet in Mexico.

If you need help in registering a com.mx domain name, as either a company or individual then visit our shop. The domain is unregulated and open to registration by any nationality.

Now, you can benefit from our search with a powerful yet affordable service that can be deployed without any hardware or software to install or maintain, and that meets the budget for any size organization. We use the Reflexion service internally, and it is currently blocking over 10,000 spam and 25,000 messages to unknown users per month, dramatically increasing our network speed.

Reflexion’s exceptional degree of control is achieved by combining its unique capabilities with traditional defenses, such as Allow Lists, Block Lists, and content filtering, based on the user’s preferences.

dotMobi, the company behind .mobi announced this week that more than 500,000 .mobi domains have been registered in 104 countries since the domain’s commercial launch in October 2006.

The continual growth of .mobi registrations illustrates that content developers are focused on delivering quality sites and applications to mobile phones for consumers to use. Millions of pages of content are now live on .mobi sites and many of the world’s leading brands have gone “.mobi” over past few months.

I was quite enjoying playing around with their mobile phone emulator and mobile ready report as well. I see we still have a lot of work to do on e3internet before we’re ready for mobile visitors. Researchers at IDC say that 1.3 billion people will connect to the Internet via mobile phones by 2008 so worth putting on your TO-DO list.

Currently .biz also accepts the following language sets, German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic and Spanish making it one of the most internationally accepted IDN domains.

“China and Japan are two of the world’s largest markets for IDNs, and BIZ is the first global domain to implement Chinese and Japanese IDNs in a manner that fully respects the linguistic cultures of both language groups,” commented Richard Tindal, vice president of domain name services at NeuStar. “With IDNs becoming more prevalent, we expect that .BIZ will become an essential component of every savvy international company’s media mix, particularly among firms with large Chinese- and Japanese-speaking customer bases. Because .BIZ is a generic TLD, it is global in scope, and can reach businesses that operate in these languages anywhere around the world.”

This will allow them to hide their personal details from public access.

According to Andrei Vorobiev, head of the Public Relations at Ru-Center, they planned to maintain public access only to the domain owner’s email. All other confidential information may be classified in the coming months.

This development is most likely associated with the new Russian law on personal data which came into force on 30th January this year. It requires the written consent of all parties for the inclusion of personal data in public facilities.

The landrush period for .kr (Korean) domains has now been extended until the 18th of April. Until now the .kr domain was only available in the second level, i.e. mydomain.co.kr but first level .kr registrations are now open for registration.

Over 70% of South Korea’s population is reported to use the Internet on a regular basis, the highest usage percentage for any country. The one reason so few domains have sold to date is the restriction on .kr ownership to Korean legal entities.

However we can offer you a proxy registration through our Korean partners, retaining your company or organisation name as adminstrative contact. Certificate of ownership is included with each order.

E3internet are one of the few resellers to be able to offer this new domain and we’re proud to be supporting the Korean Registry in this landmark opening. For more information and pricing please visit our .kr registration page.

This domain is also available for IDN (International) registrations, please visit IDN .kr registration page for relevant info.

One hotelier said he gets 30 to 40 new calls a month from his site http://www.kilburnie.mobi, which is probably a positive return on the investment.

.mobi is one of the most interesting sTLD’s to get released in my opinion. The domains can only be used for sites that have mobile accessibility. The mobile web is a massively growing sector though, as people’s mobile technology improves then they get more used to having web services through that device.

As the article states, big business tends to redirect users on their main TLD (.com etc.) depending on whether the request has come from a mobile phone. There is space now for small businesses to cash in on the interest in the .mobi niche and provide early bird services.

The lack of sites at the moment is most likely due to the lack of understanding in creating mobile sites by the mainstream web design/development industry. Mobile sites use Web Mark-Up Language (WML), which will seem very familiar to anyone working with standard web pages. There are some excellent tutorials for novices on the internet though, I’ve linked to a few of them below.
