First Multilingual Blog Launched
A group of search marketing professionals has launched Multilingual Search, a project with the aim of providing locally operating search engines with higher visibility on the world stage. A new blog covers the world of search outside the US and the English language giving access for marketers to search engine and internet news from every corner of the the globe – presented in the English language.
Explains Atkins-Krüger, “We felt there was a gap in the information available to search marketers who are targeting the non-English speaking world in particular. Very quickly we discovered there was a lot going on which was scarcely reported elsewhere. The blog user can choose to view posts by country which is something marketers asked us for to facilitate their planning and research efforts.”
E3internet was invited to create a unique platform and design for the web site. The project posed some development problems, focused around creating a multilingual blogging platform which would be indexed by every regional search engine. The system was designed to allow editors to post and visitors to read in their native languages. English language visitors can access translations and select RSS feeds on specific countries or markets they are interested in.
On top of the usual design, usability and search engine customizations we carry out normally, we had to re-write many of the functions within the Open Source platform WordPress. Some 7000 new lines of code were added to the project.
“There is still work that can be done”, Nick Wilsdon, our Managing Director explains, “Making a project multilingual is a Pandora’s Box; however Multilingual Search has taken some major steps down this path. Of course the platform is complimented by the high standard of the contributing editors, many of them famous names in the industry. It’s easy to see Multilingual Search becoming a flag ship site for the online marketing community.”
However this is likely to be a project that we help to develop further in the future. Nick was asked to be one of the Multilingual Search editors – he represents Russia and you can find his regular reports on current events in Russian search and internet marketing there.
