Temple Translations supplies language translation services within the legal and financial sectors. Their clients are law firms, financial institutions and commercial organizations serving global corporate markets. Over ten million words a year in more than 100 languages are translated, proofed, bound and delivered.

Temple approached us with a challenging site concept. As William Marco, Creative Director, explains, "We wanted the web site to replicate document files, which for example, might hold translated contracts or financial statements. The site would be a series of horizontally sliding pages with file folder tabs which the user could click".

Temple had been told that this concept could only be brought to life using HTML 'frames' or Flash technology. Unfortunately both these techniques can cause problems when trying to rank a web site within the search engines. Making the web site search engine friendly was an important part of the project for Temple, as they wanted expand their presence online and increase visitor numbers.

We proposed a third option to Temple, using JavaScript. Our programmers could recreate the effect they were after using this technology. It was also important that we designed the web site to work on all web browsers (I.E., Firefox, Mozilla and Opera) and ensured that it was functional for users without JavaScript on their computer.

Each page had individual title tags and could be indexed on the search engines. This also meant that any user which entered on one of these pages could instantly use the file tabs without having to start on the index page. If they did not have JavaScript enabled on their computer then they could still click the file tabs to change pages.

We were very satisfied with the project, which met the functional goals while remaining search engine friendly and accessible. Temple felt the same way, as William Marco explained, "We are very happy with the end result. Particularly the functionality of the sliding file folder pages ".
